A pickup truck driver ran a police blockade in north Pattaya, and led police on a high-speed chase down Second Road, going against the traffic flow. At Khao Phra Tamnak hill, the two men inside abandoned the truck and escaped into the forest.

PATTAYA – August 25, 2012 [PDN]: At 2:30 p.m., a report of a pickup truck running through a police blockade was received by Pol. Maj. Gen. Sakesun Ruewit, suppression inspector of Muang Pattaya police station.

The blockade was set up at the entrance to north Pattaya road to search vehicles for illegal items. However, a blue Izusu pickup truck, registration sign Sor Nor -1784, Bangkok, fled through the blockade. There were two people in the cab of the truck.

Police radioed units to intercept the truck, which was heading toward the Dolphin roundabout. Police assumed the pickup may have been stolen, from the behavior of the suspects.
Police vehicles rushed to the Dolphin roundabout to intercept the truck. However, before reaching Pattaya beach, the pickup driver then turned his truck into second Pattaya road, going against the flow of the traffic.

The speeding pickup truck veered around oncoming cars and nearly hit pedestrians crossing the street as it sped the wrong way up Second Road, from north Pattaya all the way to south Pattaya.

Pursuing police officers and volunteers tried to trap the pickup, which kept driving against the traffic flow. At the Wat Chai junction, the driver fled up to Khao Phra Tamnak hill, almost hitting road cones and police trying to intercept them.

When the suspects reached Jomthian road route 2, they abandoned the truck near the entrance to Rim Hard Jomtien Condominium, and escaped into the nearby forest.

More than 30 police officers then enclosed the forest and nearby area to catch the two men. But after more than an hour of searching, police did not find the suspects.

Police searched the pickup truck, and found two big speakers. It was unknown if the speakers had been stolen. An opened bag was also found inside the cab, but police did not find anything illegal inside.

The pickup truck was taken to the Pattaya police station to check whether it was reported stolen or had been used in other crimes. Police will pursue both the driver and the passenger to arrest and prosecute according to law.
