So I plan to change about 500bt at the airport and turn up at a hotel. i want to ask them whether it's ok to dump my stuff in my room and go and exchange money to pay up. is this an accepted practice?

Done it many times or my credit card is in my bag and I have asked if I can go shower and come back down with the card later, it has never been a problem in any hotel I have stayed at.

nice one.

think i will check into Sutus court since they have many rooms and location is pretty central. Then I will check things out and may be contact Dancewatchers to see if Tik has any deal on condos.

Not an issue. They will probably check you in and you can shower, change, rest, whatever and pay later that day as they will take a copy of your passport and immigration card anyway.

thx

a few weeks ago I emailed D-apartment to ask them about availability for 29th Aug. and they said there was none. I emailed them again this week, and they got back to me to say they now have rooms - so that shows you. Better to ask nearer the time. They are asking for credit card details though. Well, I am not going to give that out, so will take my chance. Dapartment to Sutus court is a baht bus away, or possibly within walking distance.

hey

why would you pay in advanced?

each hotel i have stayed in , charged me at the end while checking out..

you give your card number as a deposit but they`ll never charge it

and you won`t have to worry about anything, again, they won`t use it

it will also save you some money since you`ll only need to use the ATM once ..

enjoy

usually just discuss the rate and how many days I might stay, I say i will stay two days to see if I like it, that way I'm not locked in. Most times I pay nothing until the last day, but that all depends on the hotel and staff,

it is within walking distance maybe 10 to 15 mins walk but as you will have luggage i would suggest a baht bus ,even walking with light luggage may be a problem due to the heat

Just show up to the hotel and you will be fine. Like the one BM mentioned. Once you provide a copy of your passport and put a deposit down...you will not have to worry about anything until you check out....easy process! Good luck...have fun!!

To be honest the TMB currency exchange counter directly opposite immigration at the airport normally has better exchange rates than the banks outside

Great. Off in 48 hours. Gathered stuff together - did some reading for socket adaptors since not the same as uk. Thailand uses 2 pin flat/round. Got it from poundshop. Also noted the phone numbers of sutus court and d apartment. what i will do is get a sim card at airport and call up both places to check for availability. then hop on to bellservice who have just confirmed within 5 hours of my email. things are beginning to happen. it's for real.

btw, thanks for all the info. i will use that line about staying a couple of days initially. in PI last year i paid in advance - different to pats then

When you leave Thailand, don't change your Thai baht back to home currency as you can use it when you come back.
