A 41-year-old Thai woman was arrested on Pattaya Beach in front of the Central Festival complex for pickpocketing a drunk tourist. She had stolen 700 THB and his ATM card from his pockets while they were sitting together.

PATTAYA – August 23, 2012[PDN]; at 1:30 a.m., a woman was arrested for pickpocketing a man on Pattaya beach. A roving police patrol had been set up by Pol. Sen. Sgt.Maj. Songtharm Naksawat, the officer of Protecting and Subduing Crime unit, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province.

He had mobilized forces of volunteer police to inspect for crime to protect tourists at Pattaya Beach. When the patrolling police reached the front of the Central Festival shopping complex, they noticed a couple sitting on the beach in a situation that seemed suspicious.

They approached the couple and asked for identification. The drunk foreign man was identified as Mr. Michael Hagarty, age 52, from Ireland. The woman sitting beside him was Ms. Angkana Piriyathorn, age 41, address 10/23 Moo 9 Tambon Tachang, Amphur Muang, Chantaburi province.

It appeared to the police that Ms. Angkana was trying to take advantage of Mr. Michael’s drunkenness to steal his property.

Ms. Angkana claimed that she knew the foreign man and they had come to sit at the beach together. The skeptical police asked Mr. Michael to verify her claim. But Mr. Michael told the police that he didn’t know Mrs. Angkana, and just met her. So the police asked Mr. Michael to check his pockets to see if anything was missing.

Mr. Michael then discovered that 700 THB was missing from his pants pocket, as well as a Kasikorn Bank ATM card. So the police asked to search Mrs. Angkana. They found the missing cash and ATM card belonging Mr. Michael hidden in her cigarette bag.

But Mrs. Angkana still denied stealing the items, and claimed that she knew Mr. Michael. But Mr. Michael again confirmed that he didn’t know Mrs. Angkana.

He told the police that he had been out drinking until he got drunk, and was sitting on the beach alone. Then Ms. Angkana approached and sat beside him.

Police arrested Mrs. Angkana with the stolen evidence, and charged her with stealing another’s property. She was taken to the Pattaya police station to check her history for prior convictions, and sent to the investigation officer to prosecute further according to the law.

Hard to feel sorry for someone who gets drunk in the afternoon as a lifestyle choice. If he had got stoned or blasted on drugs,no-one would feel sympathy for him,so same applies to alcohol. If you drink to oblivion, maybe you deserve the outcome. A lesson learned.

Of course the thief is a lowlife opportunist. But this is a third world country with no safety net.

Be careful out there!

Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

I wouldn't even sit on the beach sober at that time let alone drunk, good to see the police trying to protect tourists though.

I wonder if this is one of the reasons for the BR round up I just read about today.

What a foolish post this is.

And as for linking drink and drugs together, Drugs are illegal where as drinking is legal.

Pattaya is party town after all :Think1:
