A New Zealand national was allegedly stabbed to death by a Swedish man in the early hours of Tuesday outside a Bar in Soi Diana Inn, Central Pattaya. Police and rescue services were called to the area, in front of the Areca Lodge hotel and were confronted by an angry mob who claimed to have witnessed the Swede, Mr. Andreas Ringvall aged 40 use a fruit knife to stab Mr. Robert E. Hollick aged 43, twice in his neck. Mr. Hollick was rushed to Hospital but was pronounced dead-on-arrival. Members of the public were able to detain Mr. Ringvall and his Thai Wife, Khun Dow aged 26. She was extremely vocal in defending the actions of her Husband, which she claimed was self-defence. Mr. Ringvall remained silent throughout the initial arrest and questioning later at Pattaya Police Station. A Taxi-Motorbike driver, Khun Muan, witnessed the incident and said that a confrontation between the two men occurred on the street. Khun Dow was allegedly seen to slap the face of Mr. Hollick, while the two men verbally confronted each other. Seconds later Mr. Ringvall was seen to stab Mr. Hollick. Khun Muan and others then rushed Mr. Ringvall and his wife and detained the pair.

Khun Supipar aged 47, who works for a Bar close to the scene of the altercation claimed that Mr. Ringvall and his wife were sitting and drinking in her bar before the altercation. Everything appeared normal until Mr. Hollick arrived with his pet dog which caught the attention of Khun Dow who took the dog to her Husband, Mr. Ringvall who disliked the animal and used bad language towards Mr. Hollick. The altercation in the street then occurred.

Khun Dow has been married to Mr. Ringvall for 5 years and they previously lived on the Island of Samui in the South of Thailand and had been in Pattaya for only 2 months. She claimed that Mr. Hollick was the aggressor and he was stabbed by Mr. Ringvall out of self defence which she claims would be backed up by security camera footage. Police are now investigating the case further but for now Mr. Ringvall has been charged with murder and his wife is being held pending further investigations.

Using a knife is asking for trouble... Now he got what he wanted, a murder and life sentence. I hated anyone carry knives. Decades ago, Irish pubs, we fought with our fists(Man to man) to settle our arguments, Not anymore now.

An over reaction for sure, but why would the murdered guy get upset over a girl saying hello to his dog? That's the kind of thing I would do myself and if the owner started up over it I wouldn't think too highly of them. The comment above about "Rob" is giving us some strong hints about the guy.

The dog seems to be a Pit Bull. Sweden is one of the countries that banned them. I don't know what Mr. Hollick used the dog for, but there is no report that the dog defended his master in the fight. Having one myself I know how sacred many people are of them, and some outright hostile. Wrongly, they're not aggressive against humans by nature, they were created to fight other dogs. What level of brutality is required to make them aggressive you can watch on youtube and elsewhere, it's sheer torture.

 

Anyway, I wish the press would follow up and report the sentence of Mr. Ringvall, but in a week from now it'll be forgotten and superseded by three or five new murders. Does anyone remember the guy from NZ who got shot in the head by a killer hired by his Thai wife? Or three years ago, a friend of mine was stabbed to death, http://www.pattayada...violent-murder/ and I can google as much as I want, what happened to the murderer afterwards is recorded nowhere.

After reading more I regret my first comment. There's a couple of versions of the story, as it happens, and none paint Rob as being the primary antagonist.

The true story as I understand it.

I received a phone call about two in the morning telling me that Rob had been beaten up. A friend and I hooked up together and found Rob at the hospital.

Sadly he had already passed.

We were told many stories of what happened but this the one I believe.

The Thai man that broke up the fight and restrained the Swede and the Thai woman that accompanied Rob to the hospital gave us this version of events.

Rob was walking past the bar when the Swede’s girlfriend ran out and grabbed the dog. She then took the dog over to her boyfriend.

The boyfriend wanted nothing to do with the dog and he pushed it away. Rob then proceeded to make fun of the Swede in a joking type manner.

After he had had his fun Rob left the bar and walked around to another bar.

The Swede’s girlfriend then raced to her home and retrieved two knives. She was angry that Rob had made fun of her boyfriend and she wanted him to do something about it.

The Swede wasn’t overly concerned about the banter but she insisted.

Rob had a few drinks at other bar then left.

Rob had to walk past the bar containing the Swede and his girlfriend to get home. He had no idea the Swede was waiting for him with two knives. One was a ten inch fruit knife and the other one was a shank type knife, think screwdriver but thicker.

The Swede stepped from the bar and shouldered Rob in the street. When Rob questioned this action the Swede pulled out the knife and stabbed him in the neck.

When Rob fell to the ground he stabbed Rob twice in the back. Then he slashed Rob on his arm and leg with the fruit knife.

The girlfriend then joined the fray and kicked and punched Rob as he lay dying in the street.

The man who told us this story then broke up the fight. He disarmed then restrained the swede and he was then helped by fellow Thai’s.

The man’s story was backed up by other onlookers.

I would like to add that he was very brave to put himself at risk trying to save Rob.
