Jakarta’s Kota Indah – Going Native, for the Good Stuff

Recommended Posts

WhoresWhisperer

Introduction

This thread is mostly a how-to guide about an area of Jakarta called Pen J or Penjay by expats, called Komplek Kota Indah (sometimes Komplek 45) by locals, including taxi drivers. I will also mention a few things about other mongering locations and Indonesia in general. My most recent visit was October, 2011, with several visits in earlier years.

Komplek Kota Indah gets at least 99.5% of its business from Indonesians and a few visitors from other Asian countries. Going here is “going native”, and that’s a good thing. I’m convinced that in Asia, the best stuff is always found where the locals get it. If you get beyond language and culture barriers, many delights await.

Language

In Kota Indah/Penjay, very few people speak any English at all. You might hear, “Hello, mister”, but not much else. One needs to speak at least very basic Bahasa Indonesia to monger here.

The good news? Bahasa Indonesia, as they call it, is easier to learn than Thai. It is written with our “Roman” letters and does not use tones. The phonemes, or sound units, are mostly easy to pronounce. With a self-teaching program, I learned enough in a few weeks to get started.

I should mention that many letters produce different sounds than in English. For example, “air”, the word for water sounds like the beginning of “Ireland”, like “ire” or “eire”. Starting with a pronunciation guide is key.

Culture (A Kinder, Gentler Muslim)

A lot of people ask me about safety or bad experiences traveling in this predominantly Muslim nation. I have had no problems at all. In fact, I would say that the average Indonesian person is more kind and considerate to me than the average Thai person.

One reason is that the culture of the island of Java predates Islam by thousands of years. On Java, like many other Indonesian islands, people place a premium on getting along with others. You will see “avoiding direct confrontation” and “saving face” behaviors, similar to in Thailand. The difference is that in Indonesia, such things seem more sincere and less artificial.

It is important to note that P4P and other “naughty” behavior in Indonesia must be rather discreet at least somewhat hidden. One reason is to avoid causing offence to respectable women folk and such. Another important reason is to avoid offending more conservative Muslim Indonesians and their clerics. It seems that Indonesia’s Muslims don’t mind some “naughty” activity, so long as it remains discreet and hidden from public view.

In fact, Indonesians might have more ways to pursue sexual fun than Thais. It’s simply discreet (like most of the P4P for Thai men). That’s key to finding it and key to getting along well with Indonesian people.

More good news: Unlike Thailand, where a white foreigner has very limited access to “native” P4P venues, I’ve always been welcome in places intended for Indonesian customers.

Definitely Not Pattaya

Posting on the Pattaya Addicts board, I should mention clearly that Jakarta is NOT like Pattaya.

Almost nobody speaks English outside of International hotels and the handful of businesses which do a lot of business with Foreigners. In restaurants and stores outside of Jakarta’s Blok M and the financial district, you cannot depend on anybody speaking/understanding English. Kota Indah is rather far from these areas.

Jakarta definitely doesn’t have the sex-in-your-face atmosphere of Pattaya. In fact,

P4P venues might not be easy to find. They often do not have obvious signs on the front. Nothing outside will suggest sex or anything erotic. In fact, many P4P venues are located in small side streets, often with no signs on the nearby main street.

Unlike Pattaya, it is a playground for locals. If you can “fit in” with the locals, you cab share in their fun.

Camera Shy

In Kota Indah, ladies and bosses usually dislike photos of themselves or their business.

I guess it’s the need to be discreet. I have seen some good photos from other Jakarta venues, and kudos to the mongers who took them. I will keep trying.

For now, I’m sorry that I don’t have photos of women. Photos of Indonesian women in other posts provide a good general idea of what you can find. I go to Kota Indah because the women are better-looking and more fun than you will find at other places in Jakarta.

Location/Getting There

Komplek Kota Indah is a U-shaped block on the north side of Jalan Pangaran Jayakarta. It has no obvious signs on Jl. Pangaran Jayarkarta to mark it. It can be hard to find the first time, and I’m not the first person to say so.

The address is Jalan Pangaran Jayakarta 45, which applies to the whole block. Unfortunately, the address doesn’t really help anybody find it. The photo is a homemade map which I used with cab drivers, and it worked rather well. Jl. = “Jalan”, which translates to “street” or “road”.

But be aware that some cab drivers are not familiar with the place. For that, I’ve added photos (below) of business cards of some bars in the area. A cab driver could call for directions, if necessary.

The only definite landmark is a 2-3 storey building on the opposite side of Jl. Pangaran Jayakarta which is painted a vivid yellow color. I just hope that nobody re-paints that building. In the middle of the block, on Jl. Pangaran Jayakarta, is an old sign saying, “New PH – Hot Stone massage”, but the sign is not easy to notice.

(A note on the word, “Kota”: If you mention “Kota” in Jakarta, it refers to Jakarta’s Chinatown area, which is close to Komplek Kota Indah. But Kota Indah would be considered to be in the Mangga Besar area or perhaps the Glodok area.)

The Establishments

All of the P4P businesses in Kota Indah bars, at least downstairs. Disregard names like “coffee house” – they are all bars, at least as we would describe them. Each has a similar format.

I won’t try to recommend any specific place, because on each trip the situation is different. Some bars close, some new ones open, and last year’s favorite might be only OK this year.

Typical Routine

When you enter, you will find that the first floor is an indoor bar with air conditioning. The lighting will be somewhat dim, even slightly dark. Music or Karaoke will be playing and usually rather loud. In most places, a host/hostess will show you to a seat, usually a “booth” format, consisting of a sofa-type seat and a table.

Each bar has at least 15, usually 25-40, up to about 80 ladies employed. Some might be alone in the bar, some with customers, but the most are often in a back room which serves as a sort of “break room” and waiting area for the ladies.

The mamasan/papasan will probably bring a lady to your table. She will introduce herself and sit down with you. In other countries, the boss’ selection seldom works for me, but in Kota Indah, the quality of women seems good enough that I like my “blind date” at least half of the time. Often the mamasan/papasan will select one of the few ladies who can speak a little bit of English, which can help. (About speaking English, be advised that I’ve met only one Indonesian pro who can speak English as well as the average Pattaya bargirl.)

If I want another lady or want to look around at who’s available, I use “face saving” methods as I would use in Thailand, like offering the lady a small amount of money to help me find somebody or giving her money and saying I want to look around, etc.

Cultural Note: Saving face and avoiding direct confrontation is at least as important here as it is in Thailand.

One can also ask the mamasan/papasan to help you find the sort of woman you want. Keep in mind that if this is your first visit to the bar, your choices might be somewhat limited. For a new customer, the management will often select cabable, experienced girls, who will give you good service. Also, white guys are rarely seen in these bars. Many girls are afraid of you or feel awkward going with you until somebody checks you out.

Bule-ism and Becoming Familiar

Most of we board members are “bule” (pronounced boo-lay), or white guys. Unlike Thais, Indonesians are not very racist. They generally like us and enjoy having us around. The guys in the bars are very friendly to me and seem amused, even flattered, that a bule is hanging around with middle-class Indonesians.

Indonesians do realize that we are quite different from them. In Kota Indah, where the pros almost never encounter us, they often worry that the language/culture barriers will be too difficult, making the encounter unpleasant or making them unable to please us. And yes, some might worry that our d**ks are too big.

But you can overcome this by using some social intelligence and gaining social credibility. If you go with one lady and it is a positive experience for her, more will want to go with you. The mamasan will feel comfortable introducing you to a larger group of ladies. Go with a few more and almost every girl in the bar will want the novelty of going with you.

And yes, most of the ladies have never been with a white guy before.

Down to Business

All of the bars have short-time rooms upstairs. Most are air conditioned, but it pays to ask and to pay a little bit extra if only the “deluxe” room has AC. The general quality of the rooms reminds me of Soi 6, and all of the rooms have a shower.

When my language skills were very poor, I would be with a woman in the bar, simply motion “you and me” and then point upwards. She would get the idea.

The mamasan/papasan will show you to a cashier, where you pay for both the room and the service. The typical price for one hour is 250,000 to 350,000 Rupiah (about $27 to $38 US).

Taking somebody LT/long time is usually 1,000,000 rupiah or more.

(Next Posts)

During the next few days, I will post information on typical service to be expected, characteristics of Indonesian ladies, and a few vignettes describing encounters with individual ladies. Cheers, guys.

A few pictures of the street would be nice. Is this the general area where Tiera Ciera used to be in that mall? Also Olympic hotel (if it's still there)? Looks like it from looking at the map. If so I have great memories of that area and especially Tiera Ciera.

Arguable the most underrated mongering area I have ever been to. Guess the whole muslim thing keeps people away. They don't see a lot of bule there and the extra attention can be a bit disconforting if you are not sure what to make of it.

Quality can be quite good and price very reasonable. Tiera Ciera was probably the best bar/brothel I've ever been in for sheer quantity and quality. Too bad it's gone. No so much for ambiance though. Strickly a get in, get off, and get out kind of place imho. That goes for all these places. I got the impression it's mostly only an afternoon kind of place. Evening is when it gets busy with locals I guess and perhaps not the safest place to be for a bule at that time. I've only been there in the afternoon so I can't say for sure.

One other thing. I'm not sure I agree with the statement that it's not discriminatory like thailand can be. I had it happen to me several times in that area. I am very obviously western and white and several times had girls act very standoffish to me when I expressed interest but were all over Indonesian guys when they came in. I remember because it was so obvious. Not a huge deal as I was always able to find girls I liked that were interested. Some of the girls in this area are just not interested in westerners though. You just need to accept that and move on when it happens. It's usually not something that should be taken personally.

I also disagree a bit about the language barrier. If you have money in your pocket you can get laid. Doesn't matter if you can't speak a word of their language (like me). Of course, like anywhere else, it helps if you do.

Meatpuppet,

No, it's not part of Lokasari Plaza, the location of the old Tiera Ciera. On the map, TC would be along Jalan Mangga Besar Raya, at the bottom of the map. The distance between Lokasari Plaza and Kota Indah would be 1-1.5 kilometers.

Congratulations on getting past the language barrier. I've done similar things in places where I don't really speak the language. I thought that I should warn other Pattaya Addicts that this is definitely not Pattaya where language is concerned.

Next trip, will try to get some photos of the street. Even so, I find few landmarks which I notice or recognize even after many visits. From the main street, Jalan Pangeran Jayakarta, the place looks quite nondescipt. This might be on purpose, I think.

Typical Service

Short time usually lasts for an hour. BBBJ is standard, along with covered (sometimes uncovered) sex.

Be advised that some call Indonesia the “bareback capital of the world”. Though condoms are always available, many pros give BB service to many of their customers.

If that’s your thing, there it is. If not, you’ve been warned.

Indonesian Ladies

Women in/around Jakarta are mostly of the Sundanese and/or Javanese ethnic groups.

Their appearances and physiques vary, and include many women with big, beautiful eyes, large breasts, and sometimes with nice, rounded butts (bums). Pubic hair is sometimes trimmed, occasionally shaved, and usually more sparse and soft than on a Thai girl.

Most of these women really love sex, so a GFE experience is rather easy to find. They usually have real orgasms.

The Women of Kotah Indah

Kotah Indah caters to middle-class Indonesians, so the women are younger, fresher, and prettier than in places catering to foreigners. As in most of Asia, the best talent goes to the locals.

Most are 19-22 years old, with a few up to 28 or 30. Many have “farm fresh” bodies. Some are voluptuous but almost none are chubby/fat. Almost none have had children

Vignette: Susi at Sariayu

The mamasan brought Susi to my table and how could I say no? She was 22, with D-cup tits, round ass, long wavy hair, cute and flirtatious. So upstairs we went for one wild session. She loved sex, in every position, the harder the better, having vocal orgasms while her tits swayed back and forth.

The only drawback was the lousy air conditioner in the room. Still, despite all the sweat, it was a great GFE/PSE experience

Vignette: Nency (former) at Astro

Nency was a rarity in Kota Indah, somebody who could speak a little bit of English after two years in college. At 22, she looked much younger, with a slim, lithe body which reminded me of the porn star Kobe Tai.

Her very tight pussy had sparse wisps of hair, making clipping/shaving irrelevant. Despite the tight fit, she was very enthusiastic in doing the nasty with me. (Very tight Thai girls complain of pain and hesitate. Tight Indonesians go for it unless pain literally stops them.) We seemed to have some real chemistry, making this another GFE/PSE thing.

I even took her to my hotel for a couple of nights. My only regret is that Nency left the trade more than a year ago.

Vignette: Nadia at Astro

Some Indonesian ladies look like they could be European or part European. At first glance, Nadia’s face reminded me of girls from southern Germany or Switzerland.

But her 20-year-old body was all Indonesian, including a very tight pussy. She seemed to like this “bule”, and was very affectionate and orgasmic. She did some dirty talk, saying “fuck me, fuck me” at the appropriate times. Must have seen some porn because she could barely speak English otherwise. Indonesian girls are full of surprises sometimes!

Vignette: Nency (recent) at Astro

This is another girl named Nency, whom the mamasan recommended on my most recent trip. She was a sweet 18-year-old with a lovely, pert body and a very pretty face including full, succulent lips.

She had the “farm fresh” thing, that’s for sure. The whole time, I was thinking that this was like returning to my youth for the ultimate “high school sweetheart” experience.

She was very affectionate in a rather quiet, demure way, which made the affection seem even more genuine. And she came in the same quiet, demure way, like a teenager discovering her own sexuality.

Conclusion

Nency was another example of why I like Kota Indah. Such women are rarely, perhaps never found in places catering to foreigners. That’s why I “go native” for the good stuff.

Nice write up. Keep working on those camera shy ladies as it would be nice if we could illustrate this guide a little.

WW definitely keep this thread going. As a former frequenter of the Indonesian scene (worked in Balikpapan for 7 years) it is refreshing to see someone giving the straight scoop on the beautiful Indonesian women. Back in the day, it was Top Gun and the 5th floor, but in Balikpapan and during some periods at Merak (west end of Java by Anak Krakatoa) I got to experience the local hang outs you describe. My bahasa used to be pretty good, and you are absolutely right that it is an easy language to pick up.

Any photos would be appreciated, and look forward to more stories.

Having done numerous trips, over many years, to Java I agree with your observations and experiences.

Jakarta is a gold mine with nuggets to be collected everywhere.

I'm still amazes me how few hardened Asia mongerers haven't "discovered" this wonderland of sexual satisfaction and at relatively bargain prices in all sorts of entertainment venues. From old favourites like Top Gun, the 6th floor, BATS and Travel hotel there is something for everyones budget.

What is around the best time of day to be cruising through Kota Indah?

Thanks for your information WW.

Sorry for the delayed response. Kota Indah bars usually open at 1-2 pm and the have all of the staff available from around 2-3 pm until midnight or 1 am. I like to go in the late afternoon or early evening because some places can get busy after 7 or 8 pm.

I'd love to get back to Jakarta but never seem to find the time these days. Very underrated monger destination but not so good for other things like western food and convenient reasonably priced hotels. They don't call Jakarta the big Durian for nothing. A big smelly 3rd world city a lot of people like me can only take so much of it.

Thanks WW very interesting. Only just discovered this report.

Went to Bali once (2001) when not aware p4p available. Though one male shopkeeper offered to give me a BJ.... I declined!

I have during these past few years read many reports of p4p all over Indonesia.

Found your information very helpful and though doing Thailand this year, but gives me plenty of time to plan my next trip and learn a bit of the lingo.

I've only been there once with a buddy who has been there many times

and found it outstanding, clubs are spread out so it's not like Pattaya

but the service is great with many girls to choose from, we went to one

bar and I counted at least 200 hundred girls (no shit). My buddy gave

me an update last week (he goes about twice a month) and said it is

better now than when I was there last. I will be meeting him for a week

on Feb. 8 for some update of my own.

Just booked a cheap ass flight ($100 ish) on Air Asia, KL to JK on 8th Feb until 12th Feb (Chinese new year, public holidays here in Malaysia, so why not!)  Any advice would be welcome or even if someone is going at that time too we got each others backs?   Looks like i'm gonna have to research a bit since JK is massive and I don't wanna end up in some dark alleyway getting raped/beaten and the like.

Also helps that I'm Malay looking but British/NZ 100% - just gotta learn Bahasa malay (same same but different) and I'll be sweet....
