500,000 Baht Pawn Shop Armed Robbery.

Police Colonel Sutin, the Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station was called in to oversee a case of armed theft which had taken place at a Pawn Shop in Soi Tepprasit 7 in Jomtien on Monday Night. Police were met by the shopkeeper, Khun Sitichai aged 47, who explained that he had been handcuffed and a spicy red sauce had been thrown in his eyes during the theft of nearly 500,000 Baht’s worth of items. The owner of the shop is Khun Wichan who soon arrived and explained that although the shop had 3 CCTV Cameras, the tape had run out and the cameras were not activated. Khun Sitichai explained that as he was preparing to close the shop, two men on a motorbike pulled up outside and a White Car with three people inside also parked in front of the shop but they remained in their vehicle. The two men, armed with guns, entered the shop and handcuffed the shopkeeper to the refrigerator door handle and then threw a red hot sauce into his eyes. Within 5 minutes, 50,000 Baht’s worth of Gold items, 30 second hand mobile phones, 15 digital cameras, 30 watches, and 20,000 Baht in cash were taken. Police did arrest one man, later in the night who was in possession of a firearm, identified as Khun Wichai aged 35. However, he was found not to be involved in this case. With limited clues and no forensic evidence, Police will do their best to arrest the two men and recover the stolen items but they have informed the shop owner that the chances of doing this are slim.

If it was only 50,000 baht of gold, and 20,000 baht in cash, how the hell can the rest add up to 430,000 baht!

Bangkok Police Arrest One of Three Foreigners Accused of Stealing 500,000 Baht

A Guatemalan national, Mr Jose Mendoza, aged 45, was arrested by police in Bangkok on Friday and charged with stealing 500,000 baht from the back seat of a car of a Thai female teacher here in Pattaya a day earlier.

The teacher, Khun Songporn, had been approached by three men of foreign extraction when she returned to the Arunothai school in Central Pattaya after withdrawing 500,000 baht in cash from her bank. One of the men, now identified as Mr Mendoza, approached the teacher to inform her she had suffered a punctured tyre. While the teacher was engaged in inspecting the puncture, Mr Mendoza’s accomplices stole the money from her car.

Fortunately, the teacher had noted the make, model and licence plate of the vehicle driven by Mr Mendoza and was able to inform local police. The case was given top priority by local police and the vehicle was identified as having been rented from a place in Jomtien. Detectives from the Crime Suppression Unit were able to track the vehicle to Bangkok and late on Thursday evening Mr Mendoza, who is known to have a criminal record in his home country, was arrested in the Mah Boon Krong shopping complex in Bangkok and brought back to Pattaya. Here he was positively identified by the victim and will now face court proceedings. His two accomplices are still at large.
