TRANG, July 8- A flash flood hit Trang’s provincial seat, submerging some 40 houses and farmland under one metre deep water.

Trang’s provincial seat district chief Nipan Sirithorn and relevant officials on Sunday visited Ban Huai Riang village to inspect damages caused by the forest run-off.

Currently, about 100 villagers were affected by the flash flood while agricultural crops were destroyed as well.

Mr Nipan expected that the overall situation will return to normal in few days if there is no further rains.

Most areas of the village are located lowlands and have faced repeated flooding about four times each year.

Previously, the village was hard hit by flood, with about two-metre deep water in early June.

Meanwhile, Amnuay Chantarat, chief of the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, instructed relevant officials in all ten districts to closely monitor the rainfall situation in order to promptly assist residents.

The weather bureau have forecasted widespread thundershowers and heavy rain on the West Coast of southern Thailand, with two to three metre high waves expected. (MCOT online news)
