When you see red in Pattaya

The more I find out the more I realise how little we really know about Thailand

 

Colours are things we normally take for granted but Thais are supers very superstitious and colours mean a lot to them.

 

Black is traditionally for mourning and like Western societies reserved for funerals. I understand that young Thais are wearing more now because it is “trendy”…Just makes me look 20 kgs lighter.

 

Each day of the week has its own colour.

 

Monday is Yellow

Tuesday is Pink

Wednesday is Green

Thursday is Orange

Friday is Blue

Saturday is Purple

Sunday is Red

 

I understand that the King was born on a Monday so they wear yellow to celebrate and the Queen was born on Friday so the colour Blue is used.

 

I used to visit the same bar most afternoons and the girls all wore the same colour each day. I thought it was a uniform but apparently it is a good luck symbol so as you visit various bars and see all the girls with blue shirts you can assume it is probably Friday. Of course if you are clever and wear blue you might get lucky too.

My GF always wears red on Sundays. I thought it was because she is an avid red shirt supporter as she will not wear yellow. Learnt something new.
