A 14 year old boy was killed over the weekend in a road crash involving a pick-up and motorbike in Soi Bongai in Sattahip District. The accident occurred late at night and led to the instant death of Khun Apichart who sustained a fatal head trauma. According to friends of the dead boy, who were driving their bikes behind him and the driver of the pick-up, Khun Prawit aged 55, the boy had suddenly accelerated down the street and turned into the main Sukhumvit Road without looking to check if there was any oncoming traffic. The pick-up was unable to avoid a collision and according to Police who have also spoken with independent witnesses, they have apportioned blame onto the 14 year old victim, although the pick-up driver was asked to attend the Police Station to be questioned.

I am surprised there aren't more deaths on these motorbikes.

So many kids riding them and no way for them to learn the RULES of the road.

At 14 I guess he would have no driving license,

What are his parents doing letting him on the bike in the first place???

So he got taken out early before he could kill anyone. No great loss.

I see enough adult Thai drive also like lunatics. They don't look when change lanes, directions or at a crossing so the youth aren't getting a good example :Anger8:

I lost a young student last year to a motorbike accident. No helmet, of course. It's heart-breaking to see, particularly when it's preventable! :Anger8:

And i presume he was another that did not need a helmet ?

I see this all the time at the school near my place, 12 year old kids, two and 3 up, no helmets. Sometimes the cops even hold up the traffic for them. I mentioned it to a thai lady, her response was that if they didnt get to ride the motorbikes then they couldnt get to school. I replied that they could always walk and she looked at me like I was crazy..!!

No matter how much bleating there is in the media, they will never solve the road toll problem until there is an attitude change among the young people and their parents.
