Scanning photos

I have scanned some old photos using HP Photosmart. When i view them in the photosmart viewer they have the file extension .bmp which is suitable for uploading to photobucket. However i can't seem to save them to any file properly and they end up with a blank icon that the computer fails to recognise and the extension .pvm which photobucket does not recognise. What am i doing wrong?

When saving the file using the scanner I have at work I had a similar problem. It always wanted to save the file as a .png file which I could not read on my computers at home. I found out by looking around a bit that when I was saving the files I had the option of saving them as a .jpg image instead of a .png image. That quickly solved my problems.

Microsoft paint should recognize a .bmp image, have you tried that?

If you open a .bmp with MS paint you have the option to then save it as a .jpg which pretty much keeps the quality of the .bmp but reduces the file size

Thanks, I meant to add that but forgot.

I'm not sure as I have it with my Office Pro package and I think it is part of office home as well. You should be able to find out with a quick web search. If not available for free check on some of the Torrent sites, I'm sure one of them will have it.

MS Paint comes as standard with the Windows installation CD, if you still have the cd and havent installed MS Paint already then go to:

Add/Remove Programs

Add remove windows components (something like that)

The tick all the boxes of things that are not installed

You will need the disk to install them all though.

As for downloading it, i don't think you can, I have tried before.
