Yep the return trip with Scoot has hairs on it so I'm coming back with Airasia for about $360 but still curious wether we have to go through immigration then back in again.

Im assuming its like Air Asia use to be and point to point so you will have to clear customs, collect your bags and then check in again, unless Scoot have a transit counter which they can issue you a boarding pass for your next flight. Im pretty sure only the main airlines and not budget carriers have these transit counters, could be wrong just never recall seeing them before

You could always call Scoot and ask them or google Changi airport and see if there is anything on their website. I'm seriously looking at Scoot for my trip in August! but firstly want to read some write ups on their performance, on time and service

Hmm, just checked Changi airport site and looks like they haven't updated it lately to include any info on Scoot. They do say that if you are traveling on a budget airline you take the shuttle bus to the budget terminal....whatever that is.

Take carry-on if you can. When AA first started up without the transit, it was a fucker. Lucky I had an APEC card as there were 1000 miserable fuckers in immigration in the tin shed.

Singapore is way more efficient. But if you can get both boarding passes either online web check in or at Sydney checkin (which shoud be so if you book Syd-BKK on the one booking)

Our one suitcase didnt make the transit in Singapore with Jetstar and the guys in BKK said it happened regularly.....note well.

Ah...yes you will have to "collect your bags at baggage claim, then exit and re-check for the Bangkok leg"

This has got me thinking about condensing down to a carry on bag and a multi-pocketed inspector clouseau style overcoat if still in need of capacity lol

I booked with scoot myself to arrive in July and I ended up phoning and asking this exact same question. I'm coming back with scoot also and I'm fucked what I'm going to do in Singapore for about 24hours stopping back, I've never been to Singapore, can anyone suggest anything in that amount of time?

This might be off topic a bit but God help Qantas with airfares this cheap, seriously WTF???? my taxi to the Gold Coast will be costing me more than the flight! lol :Clap9:

Mate that must be one hell of a long taxi ride :) thanks for the transit info so yeah I'm thinking of just taking carry on now if that's the case with the check through business. The 24 wait coming back would send me nuts so I'm coming back with Air Asia, it's $100 more but worth it unless you want to see a bit of Singapore which I won't after spending 28 days in Thailand.......I'm going to be rooted :)

Book an overnight hotel somewhere near Orchard street and check out Orchard Towers (aka The 4 Floors of Whores)

I've never been there but am curious to check it out.

There are also 2 casinos that I am told are impressive.

I'm going to trip with scoot also but not until August/September.

Really curious to see how the service etc is.

Please let us all know on the boards.

I usually only take carry on and am planning to do the same on this trip.

Thanks for that suggestion, I'll probably check out Orcard towers to drown my "leaving Pattaya sorrows". Is this within the Geylang area that I've also heard is worthwhile visiting?

I'll happily report back on scoot for those interested. If it's a winner I think the GDP of Pattya (and Soi 6?) will increase exponentially by increased Aussie visitation! lol :beer9:

I did an overnighter in Singapore after flying in from Spain. Stayed on Orchard Road (Shangrila, nice). Picked up a cute viet girl outside the "4 floors" and we had a gorgeous time. I would've kept her for the night but I had to be getting up at 4am, goddamit.

Singapore is very tolerable....

I know the airfares are cheap but if you have to stay in Singapore for almost 24 hours wouldnt that add to the overall cost and it maybe cheaper to look at either Air Asia or even Thai direct?

  • 3 months later...

So does anyoner have any feedback on Scoot at the moment.

They have been up and running for a few months. I've read some reviews online but I'm interested to hear what board members have to say.

I've booked with them for a trip in October departing and returning to the Gold Coast.

I'm flying Jetstar from BKK to Singapore so I don't have to stay overnight in Singapore... will have about a 5-6 hour stop over at Changi airport which I deem as ok as I will get back to the Gold Coast early the next day and can go straight home.

Normally I'm stuck in Syd or Melb for 5-6 hours half asleep before flying up to Bris.

Living in Brisbane I've realised there is no way for me to get to the Gold coast to catch Air Asia or Scoot by it's departure time of 9:00am.

the cheapest accommodation I've found (unless you want to share a room overnight with backpackers) is this place

http://www.southtweedmotorinn.com.au/

$85 for the night with a Bus stop right outside the front door. Catch the Bus to the airport. From the look of things it appears the Airport is the next stop after this hotel.

I came from the Ballina end & just had a mate drop me to meet a much earlier flight with Jetstar. What about train/taxi from Bris or nothing that early?

I went to Singapore with them in July and they were great...only hiccup was that they left Sydney 30 minutes late(probably not theor fault).

As for travel from Brisbane...there is a bus that leaves from Roma Street bus station very early to get to Coolangatta for the plane...www.aaexpress.com.au I think that is the web address. Also for accom at Coolangatta, there is a YHA about 5 minutes walk to the airport and I have stayed there several times and it is very handy....a single room with shared bathroom costs about $40,but they have dormitory facilities as it is a backpackers.

Hi Thanks for the feeback.

I wasn't aware of the single room at the YHA... may have to look into that.

Have looked into bus/train options.

The problem is I live north of Brisbane so the aaeexpress bus leaves 5 min before my train arrives at Roma St. This is the first train of the day btw.

Have also looked at taking the train all the way to Robina but I'd need to catch the first gold coast train of the day which departs from Bowen hills. Sadly my train arrives at Bowen hills about 2 mins after the Gold Coast train leaves.

Darn QR train timetables!!

Not sure I'd been keen on taking next train to the coast as that would get me to the airport with less than an hour to spare.

I think I'd rather stay down the coast than cut it that fine.

Milko...there are only 2 of these rooms so you need to book them fairly early, luckily I have just booked mine for my trip next month.

Hmm, just checked Changi airport site and looks like they haven't updated it lately to include any info on Scoot. They do say that if you are traveling on a budget airline you take the shuttle bus to the budget terminal....whatever that is.

Im not sure if anyone answered your sorta question, but the last time I used Air Asia into SIN you disembark in the budget terminal, clear immigration, collect your bags, find the free bus to one of the other "regular" terminals (I cant remember which one it drops you to). From there the normal checkin procedure. Although the process wasnt very time consuming or difficult, I hate it and avoid that process (PITA!). I imagine Scoot would use the same procedure as Air Asia, although Jetstar (a LCC!) does not use the budget terminal.

As far as I know now the LCC's still use the budget terminal with the associated "transfers" between that and the other terminals.

Whilst a little off topic, the thing that mostly would make me consider whether I use someone like SCOOT (and such others as Air Asia), is the training standards of their flight crew. I would trust, for example, Qantas over most other airlines in this regard. For lower cost, corners have to be cut "someplace"

Extract from Scoot's website below. When I used Air Asia they went into the main terminals in Changi terminal 1 as do Jetstar, Tiger and Cebu go to the budget terminal. Scoot go from terminal 2.

1.3 I’ve purchased connecting flights. Will I need to check-in again in Singapore? Will my check-in bags be checked through to my final destination or will I need to collect them and then re-check them at immigration?

Once you have disembarked from the first connecting flight, you will have to make your way to the landside immigration counter to re-check in for your on-going flight and get your boarding pass. Your bags will not be checked through to your final destination. It is your responsibility to collect your check-in baggage from the designated belt, then exit as per normal and re-check them at the landside immigration counter. For this purpose, do ensure that you have a valid Singapore visa if you require one.
