Yes as far as i know there is "SAT NAV" here as my mate has got it, as he does alot of buissness in Bangkok, and said he was sick of getting lost !!

On a lighter side i wonder what happens when you go to a remote village off the beat and track !! does it actually speak to you when there is not a recognized road and just says "At the next junction turn in to soi up to you?" :GiveBeer1:

You can buy maps for Garmin Sat Nav systems. It is good but costs about 14 000 Baht and cannot be used with units made by other manufacturers. It has not been pirated yet either because a license has to be issued which is unique to each Garmin unit.

If you yave a Nokia N95 you can download a Nokia map for Thailand. I have not used it for navigation yet but the map appears to be very detailed. It even show those little alleys that link Soi6 with Soi 6/1.

There are various Sat Nav maps available for use with a laptop etc. equiped with a GPS receiver. I did see a pirate version of this map once so it might be worth a search on the internet or in Pantip Plaza in Bangkok. I do not know about the availability of maps for Navman equipped units. Hope this has helped.

  • 1 year later...

I have a Garmin Nuvi with thai maps which i bought in Bic C.... Works very well, even in the real country where there is Tarmac laid.... Dirt Tracks do not appear on the map data very often...

However when it comes to Bangkok, I can only describe it as a complete nightmare.... There are so many roads which are above or below other roads that the sat nav just gets mixed up and is not sure which road you are on...

So when in Bangkok i still use the sat nav, but also rely on Signs and Landmarks to work out where i am!
