As of today this http://thailanguagewiki.com/index.php?title=Lesson_1 is up and running. It looks good, thanks Xylanic.

Just had a very quick look at this, seems very decent. No transliterations, and gives you the written and spoken text, and gives questions in thai.

Like I said only had a very quick look but will definitely be coming back to it. Do you know anything about it? Who runs the site?

I was a little confused regarding the payment screen for Learn Thai Podcast so emailed them about it. They quickly shot back an offer for 1/2 price subscription at $100 which I took up. I'd encourage everyone to do the same even though I torrent 24/7.

Learn Thai Podcast is very good. I found High Speed Thai also very helpful. Some of the phrases from speak Thai like a Thai freaks girls out!

Great article Xylantic. As someone who have never learnt more than a few words this will be very useful in finding better resources.. i only tried the rosetta stone and just as you write it was comepletely useless for me as a total beginner!

Let's Pin This One... If Admin thinks it is a good idea.  Too much valuable info. to maybe get taken off page 1.

I second that.

Just curious if anyone follow in Xylaic's footstep and take up the studying?

Anyone got any experience of this site?

http://learnthaifromawhiteguy.com/

I've talked with him a bit and did a few lessons. Very good teacher but very expensive. Price was around 800-1000 baht/hour.  If price is an issue you can get good Thai Skype teachers for about 300-400 baht per hour.

Any recommendations for Thai Skype teachers?

Does not have to be good looking, otherwise I will be too distracted! 555

Anyone have experience with Glossika?  This seems to be the 'in' program, but I still like LTP.

I used http://www.thaiwithjoy.com/

I just checked her website and she increased her price to $15/hour. I only did a few lessons with her then she had to stop due to the flooding in Bangkok. By the time she got sorted I'd decided to just continue learning on my own. I was impressed with her and her materials. She's good looking but not enough to be distracting...at least not to me.

This website looks like a wiki but I can't see how to edit any of the content or even post comments. Anyway I've seen the phrase that they teach in other books:

คุณสบายดีหรือ

but when I use it people tell me that no one says that! They seem very surprised that it's in any language book. Then they tell me I should say คุณสบายดีไหม

I also find it strange to hear a male voice speaking the lines for female speakers. I enjoy watching Thai lessons on youtube. Real people speaking real language.

Thank you for this thread, it's where I am now, and learning Thai for me is one of those new phase things in my life.

A bit of an old thread, but I'm digging it up because it's a bloody good one. Found this the other day, and it convinced me to dig out my previously ignored (since purchase) copy of David Smyth's 'Teach Yourself Thai'. I also installed 'Memolicious Thai' yesterday, and now, for the first time in my life, not only does Thai no longer just look like some big confusing jumble of quasi-Hindu script, or something, but I can actually read some of it (although I don't know what 99.9% of it actually means, yet).

Next up, keyboard stickers!

Thanks AJ, if not for you posting this thread I doubt any of that would have happened.
