48R - SUCCESSFUL Tourist Visa application to Australia for Thai Girlfriend

On Borrowed Time

Recommended Posts

I had already gathered all the relevant paperwork before my trip, and visited Key Visa office in LK Metro to ask about them reviewing and lodging for me. I was quoted 30 000 tb, and turned and walked away. Did it myself. Took a week, and I have never looked back. After that, I did the six month, the spouse visa, and then the dependant visa for the daughter.I would encourage others to do the same. Visa agents fulfill a service for some. But it is so easy to do yourself. Cheers, Goanna

just wanted to say thanks for the info , followed all of your advice had everything prepared for when I arrived in thailand 15th december the TGF with my direction and your info had all of her info ready, oh ps ( you must have filled out the 48r english version FORM  to lodge your application not the THAI version ) we and a few others were filling them out at the VFS office on the day.

lodged the application 17th 02.45pm  embassy got it  18th december approved 27th december INCL Christmas holiday and weekend   , only asked TGF ON 27th three questions 1) how  long have you known him 2) what is his whole (full)  name 3) the purpose of the trip ( visit family and friends of my BF ) ticket bought that same day we left thailand 5th january 2013 she is here now all is good.

I wanted to be with her when she was entering australia thought there might have been some issues that i could help with by being there to answer questions if they arose  she  had studdied and learnt all of the replies to the questions that were mentioned in one post on P/A  , came back to OZ on air (addon ) asia landed at the gold coast where we live ,  thinking that there was to be an interview process had it all prepared bankbook with sufficient funds money in the purse (mine )  , health and travel insurance documents  ,return ticket copy of the approval letter from VFS  , I went in the same line as her foreign passport control  .

the customs officer , looked at then  stamped the passport thru (thought there is more to come)  picked up the bags presented for bag xray and inspection thought here we go

then we were told to walk straight thru the green line straight out the exit into australia not a question nothing just straight thru one dide note I did not have my singha beer singlet or my stubbies or thongs on and she was not dressed up looking  like a girl fresh  from beach road (no offence meant girls and boys)

a few points to note I had only known this girl 3 months , she had an existing swedish 2 year visa in her passport , the money in the bank book was what i would have paid her as an allowance for the 3 months while she is here and she will be using that now to do whatever she likes send money home etc  , it just showed she had money in the bank and had the ability to support herself if the shit hit the fan ( this book  was (must)  also originally presented with our application thru VFS )

we had no pictures so in a period of 24 hrs  from when I arrived night of 15th december  took 6 different shots in 6 different settings with changes in clothing  got them developed monday  morn to take to and submit to VFS with the application.

all in all I just wanted to say the info put together here on P/A made this process easy and it worked simple as much as would also add there are obviously cases where Visa Agents are necessary , but you can simply follow the info on offer and it should work for you Thanks again

Just backing up what Icwaters had to say....

Did the whole process ourselves....  frustrating to translate some of the stuff from Thai to English, addresses spring to mind 555... but otherwise the form, whilst long is pretty straightforward....

Headed  off to the CC building and VFS... were there about 30 mins before being called to the window... The Thai Lady behind the counter, looks at the documents, only to make sure you haven't left anything out.. The VFS people offer no opinion one way or the other regarding the chances of approval or otherwise...  She puts the docs in an envelope, along with the TG's passport and sends it off to the Aus Embassy... Tells you up to10 working days for answer.... then the waiting begins.

We applied on the Thursday, flew to Chiang Mai on the Friday... on the followingTuesday my TG's daughter calls and says there is a letter for mum.... "Do you want me to open it?" .. "HELL YES" was the answer... and sure enuff there is the notification in the passport that a visa has been granted.. the difference in our case, was that the Embassy did not contact me or my GF.. at all... no questions asked at all.. I don't know why, but I am only guessing, that maybe because our ages are pretty close together may have had a bit to do with that.

We left Thailand on Dec 8 arrived Sydney Dec 9...  Like Icewaters, I was expecting a bit of a grilling from customs and immigration... At the same time we landed, a Virgin flight from LA landed..

I am thinking Immi will be a nightmare, so I tell my GF to leg it thru the duty free area and make a bee line for Immi...  Well, there was no one in the foreign passport area, so we go to the counter.... I give the LADY ( immi women can be arseholes, so was expecting some shit from her ) I give her our passports, and just talk small talk with her.. she processes me, then looks at my GF's passport photo, looks at her, stamps the passport and says "Welcome to Australia and enjoy your stay"... I am amazed... the GF reckons her heart was going 200 BPM 555... so off to customs..  via the luggage pick up.... Her bag?  2nd off... again amazing!!  on the arrival card I had marked we had some meds to declare... U know, over the counter things, birth control, headache pills that sort of thing.. I told the customs guy about them, and he said Lane 8.... straight out the door, no questions asked.

From the time we landed to the time we were having a smoke outside it was a max of 20 mins....  I kid you not!!

The whole process was pretty painless, though the application form can be a bit frustrating... We paid just the visa fee and the VFS processing charge.... nothing more.

I did not supply a letter from my employer, but provided pay slips as well as a Group Certificate... We did provide her bank book which showed she had about 10K  THB in the bank...  It did not show ANY transfers from me at all....The bank book, they want, but when you think about it, it is irrelevant because YOU are making the financial commitment not HER..

We had plenty of photos of each other, but bugger all of us together.. which was a bit of a prob, but my GF solved that.. Over the years, every time we get on a plane, she takes the boarding pass from me...  I thought nothing of it, but she had been scrap booking them... We were able to show that we had been travelling all over Thailand together for a couple of years using those boarding passes.. Maybe something to keep in mind.

I have read many many horror stories about Thai women and visas for this country, either being refused or being grilled on arrival.. That was NOT our experience.. I think if you plan on bring a Thai Woman here, it might be smart to travel with her.. it will make it so much easier.

She loves the place... getting her on the plane home in March may require a crowbar 555555

just another tip on another post here on thai visa for TGF s  there was access to a site www.ozvisathai.com which has PDF  templates for stat decs , invitation letters , oz arrival cards in thai , VFS  details info regards to australian tourist visa (subclass 676)  , all the factual info and help you will need and you can print a lot of the info to help you with your application plus a check list that you need to fill out and lodge with your application  , but the 48r and 48rth need be downloaded and printed  thru the immi dept website as pointed out by bellringer

plus I have kept a copy of all of the documents lodged, if there were to be another application lodged I will then know what was stated in the last application

Just fill in the forms carefully and with a bit of thought applied to some of the sensitive questions, plus provide photos to vouch for the 'genuineness' of the relationship and a tourist visa should not be too much of a problem.  And best if they travel with you into Australia as single males and females are treated with high suspicion by border immigration and customs.

Yes, you do need to be careful with what version of the forms you use. The forms on the site are up to date. You can see what version of the form you are using by looking in the bottom right corner of each page. The current design date is 07/12.

thanks for that and another big thanks needed to you for the very sound and helpfull information that you have made available on this site , it has  made this process very easy to handle

you have given the right directions for people to follow well done

the little lady has been here a month now you are right about the fact that the hard work starts now , a bit of work at the beginning but all is good, the trouble is,  with the land of OZ there are  so many things to like about it and when they start to appreciate the good life that is on offer here they love it

I am following comments on subsequent visa applications with great interest and there is a lot of good information coming through this area

keep up the great work it is a big help.

Just an update. We've just repeated the process and, after a medical test on here have been give another visa, this time for 6 months

The plan now ill be, after those 6 months, going down the path of the full prospective marriage visa

So yeah, confirmation of how easy it is to do it yourself

Strange to do a medical for a tourist visa, may I ask why you went for 6 months instead of 12?

Personally I went 3 months 12 months 12 months Marriage.  Things didn't work out but like everyone said very easy to accomplish everything you need to do by yourself.

Strange to do a medical for a tourist visa,

Any visa with a stay of over three month's is required to have a medical.

It is not a requirement for the 12 month multi entry visa's as the stay will only be up to 3 month's at on any trip

Diac will be more concerned with more serious medical conditions such as tuberculosis.

I think your TG has nothing to worry about with asthma and diabetes.

Agreed Ricky for a tourist visa they tend to x-ray for TB, so asthma will be ok, and no blood test unless it was a settlement visa,

When my missus applied for her 6 month visitor, they sent an e-mail to her with the details of what she had to do.

included also was the list of panel doctors and info needed to get the medical.

You will have to submit her application and wait for instruction's of DIAC her visa will not be approved until the medicals have been sent to them, my advice would be to see a panel doctor that will send them through electronicly thing's will move pretty quickly from then.

Here's a copy of the email.

Please refer to our telephone conversation earlier that you are required to have a chest x-ray with our panel doctor as you will stay in Australia for six months.

Please find enclosed the HAP letter, list of panel doctors, and copy of your passport. Please present them all to the panel doctor when you have the x-ray exam.

Thank you and kind regards,

Swinga you put the application in first and then your partner will be called by an Embassy official or sent an e-mail to go for the medical,

That confirms what I was thinking before. They only seem to be worried about TB with tourist visa of 6 months or more. This is only the case for applicants from high risk countries.

After you receive an e-mail from the embassy to go for a medical just ring the hostpital and make an appointment, They should be able to fit you in the next day

There is a number of  doctors at the hostpitals that can do it. we did it in Bangkok and have been to both Bangkok general hostpital and also Bangkok nursing home hostpital. If your in Bangkok my missus advices to go to BNH, She said the service there is very good.

Her results should be forwarded on to DIAC in less than 48 hours.

Another thing to keep in mind is she wont be able to have the medical if she is on her rags and will have to wait 3 to 5 days after
