i just recently bought the new iPhone 4s. i want to use my old 3g iPhone for my travels abroad. can i get my old phone unlocked in thailand and get a sim card and use it while in los?? thanks

You can very easily mate.

Head to tuk-com and you can get it reset and unlocked for about 400-600 baht.

It takes them no time at all and then you have yourself a Thailand phone.

It's also possible to do it yourself, all you need is a PC/Mac and a little bit of patience - current versions of jailbreak/unlock software are pretty user friendly and get the job done pretty quickly ( I normally take around 10 minutes to unlock a 3GS). Just Google iphone unlock and you will get a few hundred thousand hits with detailed instructions and software links - save yourself the price of a ST...

do you know what firmware and radio firmware are on your 3g? Depending on firmware it is easier said than done.

 

I use a gevey sim with my 4s when I was in LoS last month. It works fantastic. I got the Truemove 3g free size package which is 600b a month(you can go cheaper but my company paid for it) and had no issues surfing, smsing, or mmsing. I have just unlocked my iphone 4.

 

It was locked to Orange in the UK.

 

I just rang them and asked them to unlock it. Told them I was going abroad for a few months and wanted too put a local SIM in it. A week later they send me an e-mail giving instructions on how to do it.

 

Just followed their instructions and it is unlocked - magic.

 

I have tested it with 2 other carriers micro SIM and it works with all of them as well as my Orange SIM.

 

Just need to pop into the True store at Swampy in 9 days time and get their Micro SIM
