Pattaya Mother & Daughter Beggar Duo Arrested on Walking Street

CWCP Police 2 arrested a drunken mother who was begging with her 8-years-old daughter who sat on mat with a puppy on Pattaya Walking Street. The mother claimed that she didn’t force her daughter to beg but the daughter didn’t want go to school. She begged because she needed money to feed their dogs and cats.

PATTAYA – May 17, 2012 [PDN]; Pol.Lt.Col.Ormsin Sukkarnka- Vice Director of Children and Women Protection Center police 2 (CWPC P2), Pol.Maj.Col. Woman Kingkaew Charernpitakpracha, Pol.Maj.Col.Kriangsak Boonprawat and police officers from CWPC P2 arrested Mrs. Pikul Sriboonruang 40-years-old, living Banglamung , Chonburi.

Mrs. Pikul was found begging with her daughter, “Nongpim” 8-years-old near Siam Bay Shore hotel, Walking Street, South Pattaya.

Mrs. Pikul was arrested with the evidence, a white hat where she kept the money 200 THB.

The police brought her the mother and he her 8 -years-old daughter “Nongpim” and a Thai stray dog to Pattaya police station.

Mr.Palit Noja director of anti human trafficking center said, that they had read about the begging woman and her child in Khaosod newspaper of May 17.

Upon interrogation Mrs. Pikul said she was from Huay Yai, divorced from her husband and she had two children.

She had raised them all by herself. The first born a son named “Fluke” 12-years-old.

She said the children did not want to attend school. She had moved to work in Pattaya but could not find a stable job but managed to rent a room on the side of the road in the Bali Hai area.

Her daughter said she wanted to be a beggar because she needed money to buy food for their many dogs and cats.

When interrogating her further the police found out that the mother had brought her daughter to beg on the side of the road everyday with a couple of puppies so the passers by would feel pity for the child.

The mother would use the money to buy alcohol. Sometime she left her daughter alone to beg but while she was nearby drinking with friends. They went home when they had begged enough money. They had been begging for more than 6 months.Every night they would make hundreds of THB.

The police believed that Miss Pikul wanted to be unemployed and use the money her daughter made from begging to by alcohol.

When the police officers asked “Nongpim” she always said that her mother did not force her to beg but she did it because she needed the money to feed the dogs and cats and the rest of the money she would save for her mother.

Pol.Lt.Col.Ormsin Sukkarnka, Vice Director of CWPC P2 said that that, the mother was bringing up her child in the wrong way and that was against the law; code 26, in the child protection bill.

The mother was arrested and sent for further investigation at Pattaya police station.

Regarding the daughter “Nongpim” she was taken care of by the social welfare department.

Later the officers would help miss Pikul to bring her children back to school and find her a stable job in order to prevent her children to be come beggars again.
