Pattaya’s Tourist Drugging Epidemic

Naivety, over-confidence, chauvinism, as well as a lack of care and plain and simple drunkenness all contribute to the epidemic of tourist druggings in Pattaya.

The recent murder of a Bangladeshi tourist by a drug-dishing whore reminds me that over the past 18 months I have been collecting stories about the drugging and robbing of tourists in the city.

Unfortunately, crime statistics in Pattaya are a joke, and even if they were compiled, you couldn’t believe them, given the desperate Desire to hush up serious crimes against foreigners in the town.

But some cases have been reported in the local press, which I reckon really are the tip of the sleeping tablet. It wouldn’t surprise me to find at least one tourist-drugging a night takes place somewhere in the city.

Over the last couple of years, some interesting things stand out in the cases which have been reported.

Nationalities

Although the most recent, tragic case involved three Bangladeshis, one of whom died, and many reports involve Indian groups and Arabs, the nationalities of victims is a very mixed bag.

Since 2010 they have included Indians, Germans, Danes, Swiss, Russians, Jordanians, Turks, Belgians, Omanis, Pakistanis, Iranians, Asians and even a Thai on Thai drugging.

While most of the druggings take place in the victims’ rooms, there were a couple of intriguing ones.

Bus Station

Two Pakistanis were drugged in Pattaya bus station in broad daylight as they waited for a bus to Bangkok. A friendly Thai woman bought them coke (the drink). They felt drowsy and were unable to stop her stealing all their possessions and making off.

Police said she was a repeat offender.

Thai on Thai

Another one stands out, suggesting Thai on Thai druggings could also be commonplace.

In July 2011 a Thai hotel porter, having fallen in love with a co-worker, took her to a noodle shop, where, in fine Thai fashion, he decided to woo her by spiking her drink with drugs so he could have his wicked way more easily.

The noodle shop owner prevented her drugged-up seduction by calling the police.

I’m (Not) Lovin’ It

Then there was the case of a Canadian/Iranian who pulled his lovelies in a Pattaya McDonalds and took them back to his hotel in Naklua. Surprise surprise, next day he was considerably poorer for the experience, although in this case the police did arrest one of the women in her home town.

Most common method

The most common MO is usually sleeping tablets crushed in booze. I have no idea which ones they would use, but they must be tasteless, odourless and strong, or the victims must be mostly drunk and not aware of what their drink tastes like.

Perhaps it’s GBH (Roofie).

It’s not just in the booze

One Swiss victim was given chocolate laced with drugs by a woman he picked up in North Pattaya, who then scarpered with a huge haul.

Another Swiss, in South Pattaya in 2011 was drugged when his lady of the night bought and drugged a coffee from a convenience store. He had a few sips then collapsed.

In 2011 a drowsy Turkish tourist presented himself at Pattaya police station saying his female companion had drugged a glass of water during the night, after he drank it, he fell unconscious.

Beach Road

Beach Road figures in many drugging stories.

The “glass of water” victim above picked up his lovely on Beach Road, and in 2010 there was an unusual case of an Asian tourist drugged and crashed out on Beach Road who was robbed by three Thai men in Tourist Police Volunteer uniforms.

In August 2011 an Indian ticked all three ‘No No” boxes by taking a ladyboy off Beach Road, late at night.

The appropriately named Mr Bagga said he had had a beer to lose his inhibitions, but after that he collapsed and lost a lot more than his inhibitions that night.

He then gave the police 24 hours to solve the case and get his possessions back before he flew back to India! Proving he hadn’t been here long.

Walking Street

It‘s not only on Beach Road you have to be careful, but also on Walking Street.

A Russian picked up a woman on Walking Street who laced his beer with sleeping tablets and ransacked his Jomtien hotel room before doing a runner.

In July 2011 an Indian tourist met a woman in a Bali Hai disco, took her back to his room where he “consumed many cans of beer” and woke up drugged and robbed next day.

The hotel staff had failed to take a copy of her ID card and the security cameras weren’t working (both of these lapses regularly crop up in drugging reports).

Another victim, a Belgian, picked up a freelancer outside a 7:11 on Walking Street and woke up 20 hours later, substantially poorer as a result of his drink being spiked. Fortunately his apartment had CCTV, although whether many of these women are caught must be open to doubt, once they do a runner back home and the tourist returns to his country.

Getting the dose right

Obviously some practice is necessary, as an unfortunate Dane discovered when he was drugged by a Thai woman he’d taken to a beer bar on Walking Street last year. Police found purple residue which was crushed-up sleeping tablets in his glass, but not being a pharmacist the woman had administered too much and her victim had crashed out in the bar instead of back at the hotel room, and as a result she was caught.

Turning The Tables on Gang Bangers

Many Indians, single, in pairs and even in gangs fall victim time and again to lone Thai women. Perhaps they possess a naïve and  chauvinistic belief that one woman could never put them all down on her own.

Wrong.

The Pattaya record for mass drugging has to be in Diamond hotel a couple of years ago when a Thai woman drugged FIVE Indians and robbed them all.

At the time they received little sympathy on message boards in Pattaya.

A Thai drugged two Indians in the Beverley hotel a while ago, even soaping the ring of one of their fingers.

In the latest report of the murder of a Bangladeshi tourist, three Bangladeshis took one Thai woman back to their hotel. She drugged them all, killing one and hospitalizing the other two, proving how dangerous this practice is.

As the hotel took  her ID card, there is a chance she may be caught, but I suspect cases of drugged and robbed tourists will be with us in Pattaya for a very long time to come.

During 1999 I went to a doctor in BKK - needed sick note for work. He gave me GBH (Roofie) for sleeping.

 

Even I could hardly stay awake after taking 1 tablet. I hate to think if you ingested 2 or 3.

My girl and myself are dancing but our drinks were on a table.

2 people working as a team slipped something into my drink.

They were very quick and it looked like a practiced move.

One distracted by bumping me whilst the other dropped the drug into the beer.

 

They were acting very suspicious before they did it so it gave them away.

I saw the hand over the drink and my girl saw something drop into my drink.

We both immediately looked at each other and said "did you see that?"

Laughing - most of us know what your talking about. I wouldn't worry too much. Just something to keep in mind.

 

Maybe some punters can even keep going after a couple roofies. Maybe thats why they over dose the poor dudes.

There was a craze more than 10 years ago to spike drinks ( happened to me ) so the customer could stay awake and carry on drinking. I could not sleep for 2 days and my heart was pumping like a machine gun. Maybe if I had not noticed this feeling straight away, I might have been drugged next.

This sort of thing ( drugging a drink/food ) happens in a lot of countries, and its a trend we do not want to see get out of hand in our town. The police can do more to catch and punish the people who commit these crimes. Me, I am doing my bit. I work in the tourist industry in England, and I warn every possible victim, 1st timers, young people and people travelling alone, to be aware. Not leave threr drinks unattended, not accept drinks from stangers ( your mother told you that ) be aware of your surroundings and always be with a friend. This applies to all parts of Thailand and many other countries and resorts.

A mate of mine, got drugged in Nana BKK in April 2012. I will post this in Bkk Addicts too. Here’s the story he recounts to me.

 

Walked out of Angle Witches at closing time on his own and full of booze but not out of control. At the bottom down the stairs meets a girl standing doing all the flirty stuff and she proposes that she doesn’t have anybody tonight and if he lets her sleep in his room he can have free sex tonight.

 

This guy is going through the ‘I don’t wanna pay for it anymore’ stage of his mongering, but happy to sit there all night and pay top dollar for drinks.

 

Anyway back to the story, They walk down soi 4 to his hotel and she is constantly asking him “where is your hotel”, he says “not far”…etc. He notes she is apprehensive, but doesn’t give it a second thought as he is thinking – free sex this is good.

 

They buy two beers from a street vendor and some chopped up pineapple from another vendor, and continue walking.

 

She is trying to get him to eat the pineapple, and he keeps saying “I’m fine not hungry” and motions to him to drink his beer and he says “ok ok” but doesn’t drink yet.

 

Arriving at the hotel she hands over the ID card and signs in. Off to the room, on goes the TV and she starts the drink and eat coercing again. He says “not hungry drunk too much already” and motions toward her for sex. She stops him and indicates she wants to go to the bathroom first. Goes in and locks the door.

 

Some time passes and she is not out and he starts asking her what she is doing in there (As a quintessential deviate he likes to know what people do in private). She says moment, moment and he is now getting pissed off.

 

After a little while longer and he can’t wait anymore so he picks the lock on the bathroom door and when it opens finds her sitting on the toilet fully clothed. He complains “what is going on” and gets angry grabs her belongings and hands them to her and indicates this isn’t working and wants her out, however she says “no no”, strips off and lays on the bed ready to fuck.

 

He gets on the bed and then to his disgust she says must shower - off to the bathroom she goes. He wakes up 10+ hrs later and everything of value is gone: 2 new phones in unopened boxes, small camera, 18000 bht, copy watch, all credit cards and personal phone.

 

Figures out what has happened goes to reception and the ID is still there. Gets a copy and does the police report thing and the police advise most likely not her ID.

 

Back to the room counts his blessings that he has passport in the safe and some cash.

 

Can’t remember exactly how much booze he drank from the bottle – thought it was only a little bit but not sure.

 

 

Credit cards were not used at all and were cancelled almost immediately.

 

My advice always fuck her before you pass out from the drug

GBH is not a roofie at all.

 

GBH is actually GHB and is Gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid

 

Roofie is a slang name for Rohypnol which is a benzodiazepine - flunitrazepam

 

And in most countries Rohypnol is banned and not prescribed.

A very good and informative post, btw they got the Thai Lady who murdered the Bangladeshi man, she was identified by CCTV and captured by Police. She's now at the 'Hilton' awaiting trial for robbery and murder.

This is crazy, I will watch for anything like that and try not to pick up any free lancers. I promise to watch my drink and will not leave it on the table when going to the rest room, either finish it or don't order another until you are ready to drink your drink. Make sure to get a hotel that enforce I.D turn in from the girls and CCTV would be nice at the hotel also. Even being careful in my room, I will think about this thread.

Standard anxiety/sleeping drugs. Alprazolam is also used frequently. That's all no drugs who knock anybody out swiftly. Suicide attempts with them usually fail even when whole bottles of 50 or 100 pills are thrown in. So how comes people die from them here? And what's with the stories of folks who slept 24 hours or so after being drugged? No one can sleep this long who hasn't been awake nonstop for three days at least, drugs or not.

I picked up a free lancer and we hit Walking Street for a few drinks,we headed to a bar she knew and later she was bringing me 'free shots' from the bar because her friend was working there. I thought to myself free shots, great and got them down me. Soon after that we proceeded back to my place and on the way back I started feeling drowsy, and could hardly speak, started vomiting too. Still walking home I remember she asked for money so I gave her 1000 and she said she's going now because I wasn't well. I'm sure I was spiked that night. I looked out for that girl but did not see her again.

I definitely learnt my lesson that night and hopes that no one else falls into the same stupid trap!!!

I had a girl drug me with ecstasy once about 5 years back. I met her at the Arab disco by the seafood place in Marine Plaza (don't know if it's still active or not). Wasn't interested in her at first but after that drink I suddenly was. We stayed out until 10 in the morning going over to Marine Yensabai. I must have been pretty fucked up as I remember the Arab guys staring at me. After that I took her to the clinic to get her tested for any stds (she was clean) so I could bareback her. We sat in my room watching porn for awhile (at her request) and had more drinks (must have been going on 2 pm now). Finally after sex and sleeping we both woke up around 9 pm LOL. Some of you guys would have loved her, she was a British-Thai who said she loved anal (which isn't my thing) and was visiting for holiday. But she said she only wanted anal after I came the first time, she doesn't like it too hard in there. She was a bit disappointed I wasn't up for it, maybe I need another drugging . Just another crazy night in Pattaya, had a good time with her but didn't like being drugged. I actually ran into her a few times later on Walking Street and in town, she seemed an independent lady and I'm sure she found many willing mongers to please her on her holiday.
