Plane from BKK is easiest and quickest. Other options such as train and bus will take at least 20-24 hours. Airfares are usually competitive.

You can get a return trip on Air Asia from Bangkok to Phuket for around 4,500 baht. This would be the easiest way to Phuket.

You can fly from the airport near Pattaya (forget name) with Bangkok Airways. It runs a good service straight into Phuket and will save you the hassle of going up to Bangkok. The fare s slightly more than you would pay with Air Asia or Nok from Bangkok but if you then add on taxi's up there it will work out about the same.

Options

1. FLY - by far the best in terms of time.

2. Drive - 16 hours+ you need a share driver or take 2 days to get there.

3. Train - there is an overnight train from BKK. First class has sleepers but you have to book WELL in advance as its usually full. Takes around 18 hours as its slow..
