I came across Karl Taylor's photography courses some time ago. His videos are straight to the point and very easy to understand. Best of all he has a free basic photography course and all (except for a couple of very new videos) are available on torrent. Here are some links.

I should have issued a warning with the links. Be warned that the videos can lead to you putting more money into cameras. Some time after watching these videos I traded my el-cheapo Pentax DSLR for a new Canon 7D with a f2.8 17-55mm lens. I have also bought 3 speed lights, remote triggers, flash stands, shot through umbrellas and a nice sturdy tripod. It is not a cheap hobby....lol

LOL I am just interested to take better pics with my little camera for now! But I do have that same thing in me that has lead to you buying all that kit!! So I'd better be careful and lock my cards up before watching!! 555

Thanks for the torrent links.

Here are some other sites to check out to learn how to shoot.

Digital Photography School - Good general knowledge

Pattaya Days Photography Guide - This guide is the best going that explains the basics on how to use a DSLR in easily digested forms.

Visual Science Lab - Kirk Tuck is a professional photographer and author. He can be technical as any out there but really believes that photography comes from the photographer and not the gear.

The Online Photographer - Good general site that talks about photography for the sake of photography in all its forms.

Dave Martinez Photography - A Philippines based photographer that takes amazing pictures.

The Phoblographer - Talks about gear and general shooting advice.

There are tons of good sites out there and I always find more. These are the generalist sites I look at daily but I also read a lot about Micro 4/3 photography as I use those style cameras for both personal and professional uses. I also own a couple Canon bodies as well. I just don't like the extra weight of those massive DSLR bodies when I'm out traveling about.

I would rather just pay, because I consider it as education. The tutorial videos are really done well.

You could pay the $100 for the 3 videos I gave links to if you like... :GoldenSmile1:

I know a man (or his Mum) who did.

Then I ripped 'em I'm afraid.

The worst part is that I haven't watched them yet. :WhoSaw1:

Just thought of another resource that I found useful. Scott Kelby has written a number of books and has a pay website full of videos. One book series that he wrote is very informative. Here are links to some torrents:

Not that I support piracy or anything but I'm seeding all of those that you linked to. :ThumbUp6:

The NGO I run that supports single mothers and struggling students appreciates the $100 that can now go to them to be used for salon visits bettering their lives.

I think that every photographer needs to get the - equipment thing - out of his/her system.

many subjects don't require all the -- setup

look for locations that have great lighting already - and use some kind of " wink light ".

I can't remember all the times a light stand blew over or ?

for me it's all about simplicity - and it saves you from having to spend too much money on more equipment than you can even carry.

available light - and/or - diffused on camera flash.

X-synch at least 500th of a second is important for me.

I still like the ladder idea - but that's out = too lazy
