Investigation Launched Into Briton Who Died In Custody

An investigation is reported to have started into how a Briton arrested on a charge of stealing a motor-cycle died behind bars within days of his arrest in the Thai resort of Pattaya.

 

A British Foreign & Commonwealth spokesman confirmed early today that 57-yr-old Sean Flanagan from Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, had died ‘while in custody’.

 

The spokesman added: ‘The Thai authorities are conducting an enquiry into the incident’.

 

Unconfirmed reports from sources close to Flanagan’s family in Barrow say that Flanagan died from injuries as a result of a beating in the jail at Nong Plalai just outside Pattaya.

 

Neither Pattaya Police nor the Department of Corrections have commented on the incident.

It's not clear whether he was on holiday or an expat...I've read some Thai prison memoirs(warren fellowes, Colin Martin) and would wish the experience on anyone....this guy only lasted a few weeks...

I would agree entirely, and the vast majority of decent people have nothing to worry about such places.
