  1. I spent 4 weeks in this great guesthouse in June 2008. Communication with Dave before and after booking was great, I got all the answers I was after very quickly and made the booking. I was very pleased with the room I got. I must comment here that rooms do vary, so I can only refer to the one I've stayed in. The room itself is not renovated but in a very satisfying condition. DVD, in-room safe that is located in a convenient place, A/C (and not one of the noisy ones!), nice selection of Pay TV channels, great comfy bed, coffee making kit, large fridge, hot water, everything I needed for a very comfortable 4 weeks stay. WiFi as well. Didn't work some of the time but was mostly okay once the issues were resolved. Great location IMO. 30 metres from Soi Bukhau, between Soi Dianna Inn and Soi LK Metro. Noise level from the street very reasonable. Much better than Soi Bukhao! Cafe closes sometime before midnight (around 11pm perhaps? not sure...), so there is no noise from there. Once the cafe closes, entrance via back entrance only. I found it fantastic! Discrete, no Thai receptionists that gossip and tell your girl everything you've done when she wasn't there... ;-) Cleaning every second day, but you can change towels every day. Dave and his lovely wife are very warm and friendly people, always smiley and always willing to help and solve any problem you may have. I can't comment much on the food, as I spent most of the time at Nutch's restaurant around the corner. I know Nutch from previous visits, I love her food and she and her family are such warm and friendly people that you always feel welcome. Her restaurant is sort of 'street restaurant', very authentic food (SPICY!!!) and very cheap prices (dishes B30-50): http://www.nuch-pattaya.com/eng/ What else can I say? Oh, monthly deals! Prices of around Baht 7000 / month, simply ridiculous! And that includes WiFi and free DVDs. There is a huge 'library' as well... For those of you who are looking for luxurious hotels, this is not the place for you. But if you don't want to spend too much on accommodation - this is great value! I've found my little piece of heaven in Pattaya and definitely intend to book it for my next visit as well! Photos below, hope you'll enjoy the models too... ;-) Happy mongering, BR <snip by mod> - a couple of photos containing material not suitable for this section have been removed. 7. I had the opportunity Tuesday morning to sit down with Dave of Canterbury Tales Cafe and speak with him about his hotel over coffee. Below are the details I learned, accompanied by photographs. I hope you all will find this useful when determining where to stay while visiting Pattaya, and I encourage those who've had the opportunity to stay in the hotel to add their personal experiences while a guest at that establishment. Ever expanding after opening in 2005, Canterbury Tales Cafe has 18 rooms spread amongst 4 buildings. It's located in the up-and-coming area centering around Soi LK Metro, on Soi Chaiyapoon, near the intersection of Soi Boukaew on the left hand side. For those not familiar with Soi Chaiyapoon, it is one soi north of Soi Lenke, and runs between Soi Boukaew and Pattaya 3rd Road. In the immediate area (walking distance), you have a Subway, a large amount of massage parlors, salons, gold shops, 7-11s, Family Marts, Thai food street carts, Agogos, beer bars, and a coyote bar to even things out. Some of the more popular businesses in the area are Devil's Den, Club Blue, Sugar Sugar Agogo, Submarine Agogo, MASH Agogo, Oasis Agogo, Champagne Agogo, Pook Bar (ladyboys), The Golf Club, Thai-Ger Golf, The Bunker Golf Society, and Mike's Shopping Mall. For those venturing further out than walking distance, the hotel is about as close a hotel can be to a baht bus route without being on a baht bus route. Soi Boukaew has baht busses running both north and south, making getting around from the hotel to the party areas quite easy. If you're more comfortable on your own set of wheels, there are many motorbike rental places nearby, and even a car rental company. As you can imagine, being located in this popular area results in many bookings. I attempted to book a room here before on short notice, only to end up having to look elsewhere. So, it's advisable to book early if that's an option for you. The first thing that caught my attention about the hotel is the bookstore, open from 8am to 8pm. The hotel is well-advertised and while I'd heard it had a bookstore, I couldn't have possibly imagined just how many books they have available. Although specializing in English titles, they also have a good collection of Dutch, German, French, and Scandinavian titles, as well as a limited selection of Russian, Spanish, and Italian titles. Being an avid reader, I really wish I'd of looked into this earlier. The second thing to catch my attention were the tables arranged near the front of the business. While there are tables available further back, tables arranged in the front makes for better people watching. It also made me wonder about the type of food served. Keeping the same hours as the bookstore, 8am to 8pm, the restaurant serves both western and Thai food, as well as an all-day English breakfast consisting of 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon plus sausage, tomato, beans, toast, and Marmalade. To drink, you'll get orange juice, and tea or coffee. Cost of the breakfast is just 90 THB, which is a steal no matter what your home currency is doing against the Thai baht. Room service is offered and there are menus in each room. For those wanting to swim, Mike's Shopping Mall (10-minute walk) has a pool on it's roof, but the LK Metropole hotel on nearby Soi Diana (5-minute walk) allows the use of their pool for 100 THB per day. In addition, for those wanting some exercise, LK Metropole's gym is available for 100 THB per day. The main building (A), that in which the restaurant and bookstore is located, has CCTV cameras. Building C has 2 doors one must go though, the first being an electronic keycard entry door, and the second being a standard room door. In addition, every room has an electronic safe. Those partaking in activities of the flesh will be pleased to know Canterbury Tales Cafe is girl friendly. It does not have joiner fees, no matter the amount of women you opt to take back to your room. You also have a degree of discretion since obviously you're not going to be seen by many people going in and out of your room with however many ladies, or ladyboys, if you're staying in a room located in buildings B, C, or D. As for building A, there's a backdoor if you don't want to parade your bar fined companion through the front. Moving onto the rooms, they all have free wifi internet connection, air conditioning, cable television, DVD player, fan, refrigerator, kettle, and a table with chairs. Most rooms also have a sofa and balcony. There are two sizes of rooms. The smaller rooms are all similar to the room in the photographs below. Most other rooms are larger (approximately 45 square meters). The reason for that is many adjoining walls separating 2 rooms were knocked out making 2 rooms into 1 room. Dave said this was done so he could offer larger, more comfortable rooms, even if it meant he had less rooms to rent out as a result. As most mongers are on a budget, I've chosen to document a smaller room. This will give you all an idea of what the lowest priced room looks like, and you'll know it only gets better from there. The hotel's high season is from December 1st until March 1st, shorter than others I've seen in which they've tacked on a month before and after those dates. Discounts are offered for stays of at least 2 weeks, with a higher discount for stays of at least 1 month. The exact amount of those discounts will be discussed with customers upon inquiring about a booking. In addition, a 10% discount is offered to Pattaya-Addicts members who have signed up for at least a 1-year Power User membership (available to advanced members). That discount is not valid with any other discounts and will need to be verified by a P-A moderator or administrator (easily done). As is common for long-stays, a 6 THB per unit charge for electricity is applied to guests staying at least 1 month. The electric meter is in a location viewable to guests so they can check their usage on occasion, should they wish to do so. There's no additional charge for water. The room photographs below are of room 4 in building C. Building C is located approximately 50 meters from building A on Soi Chaiyapoon towards Pattaya 3rd Road on the right. If this all sounds and looks good to you, you can inquire about prices and book a room by contacting Canterbury Tales Cafe at the below phone numbers, email, or website. Phone: +66 (0)38-720-946 Phone: +66 (0)86-575-4966 Email: [email protected] Website: www.canterburytalescafe.com (Website Undergoing Updates) Even if you opt to stay elsewhere on your vacation, I would encourage you to visit the bookstore if you're a regular reader, or are just looking for a book to pass the time on your return flight.

    Sapphire Lodge

Located on Pratnumak Soi 4, Sapphire Lodge is a new hotel and bar which is bound to please considering it’s part of the Sapphire Group (accompanied by Sapphire Agogo on Soi 15 off Walking Street). From the Pratnumak intersection, turn onto Soi 4 and you’ll find it 600 meters down the road on the right. For those with their own transportation, there’s plenty of parking for both motorbikes and cars/trucks. If it’s a baht bus you’re looking for, the closest pick-up is across the soi at the Asia Pattaya Hotel. For those who live dangerously, a motorbike taxi will average 60 THB from the Walking Street area to the Lodge or vice versa. The Lodge isn’t the only reason to head up the hill for a day. There’s an exquisite beach just 100 meters away at the end of the soi. Other nearby attractions include a water park and Exotica Gentleman’s Club. Convenience stores are nearby, and there’s a reputable tailor right next door for those who like to dress to impress. If it’s the hotel you’re interested in, all the rooms are similar and run 700 THB. For that price you get access to the pool (open 8am – 7pm), cable television, free Wi-Fi, closet, bathroom with hot water, refrigerator, desk, king sized bed, two nightstands, chairs, and a wall safe. And, if you'd like to add an extra *item* in your room, there's no reason to worry about joiner fees with this hotel. On the walkway of each floor there are nice seating areas overlooking the pool…nice place to relax prior to starting out your day or ending your evening. There are 4 floors with a total of 16 rooms. View from top floor: Whether you’re staying at the hotel, or just hanging out for the day/night, be sure to sample their food. Menu items include roast chicken, cheeseburgers, club sandwiches, and various Thai dishes. Breakfast is also available, as is room service (9am – 7:30pm). If you’d rather drink than eat, the bar is open from 3 pm until 1am. You have two bars to choose from, one inside and one outside by the pool. The bartenders, doormen, and waitresses are all polite, friendly, and aim to please. You can really tell it's a farang owned and operated business. A 10% discount card is available, and free! The discount cards are valid both here and at Sapphire Agogo (where the weekly Thursday Pattaya-Addicts parties are held). Drink prices start at the following: Bottled Beer – 75 THB Mixed Drinks – 105 THB Bottle Service – 1000 THB Lady Drink – 120 THB Speaking of lady drinks, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a rotation of roughly 40 women who frequent the bar, most of whom are very laid back, making for easy conversation. They pretty much come and go as they please, so when you go you generally notice ones you haven't seen there before. Another plus is they’re far from pushy…up to you as the saying here goes. Have things on your mind other than talking? Bar fines are 400 THB for short time (room included) and 600 THB for long time. I’ve been told there’s no pay-in-advance policy, which I know you all approve of. Quality of the ladies ranges from chubby to hottie. I’ve been known to like the thinner women with pretty faces, of which they certainly have. Photos of the main bar will be forthcoming (this post will be updated at that time). But, I can tell you that it's decorated quite nicely with dim lighting, a great sound system (that's not too loud that you can't carry on a conversation), two large screen televisions, and a ton of comfortable seating in the form of stools with backs on them, extra large chairs, and couches. There's also two floors, the top being horseshoe shaped and overlooking the bottom floor. The top floor is really quite nice for getting to know your lady of choice in a relaxing atmosphere or just hanging out with a lot of fellow mongers. As if I haven’t given you all enough reasons to stay at (or visit) Sapphire Lodge, here’s a few more… Free food daily Every Sunday – Carvery served! There’re also free shots on the above promotion days! So what are you waiting for? Get your tail down to Sapphire Lodge for some tail! Website: http://www.thesapphirelodge.com

  14. I was in Pattaya the first two weeks of 2012. I stayed in a Canterbury Tales Cafe room my entire stay. Pros: 1.English breakfast is good. 2.You can smoke at the outside tables. 3.All the staff are really nice. 4.The cafe is also a bookstore. I didn't have to look hard for copies of standard first trip books, ie Private Dancer. 5.Rooms are spacious. Most of the rooms have balconies. 6.Felt comfortable just hanging out here. Not too big, nor too small of an establishment. 7. Accomodating. I showed up without a reservation, and after a little checking, got a room. 8.Dave , the owner, is a nice guy. BTW, Dave, has my cavair come in yet? 9. It seems like a tolerant place. There's an article pasted on the cafe's bathroom wall about gay rights, and alot of other articles, posters about different things,too.. I also took a ladyboy back to my room without a second thought. 10. It's a pretty secure place. After 8pm, the cafe closes, and you have to use a backdoor that requires a key. I stayed in the main building though. Don't know about the other buildings. 11.Rooms are cleaned every other day, thoroughly. They also have safes. I never had any thought of the staff stealing anything, or anything like that. 12. They'll do your laundry. Just hand it in, get back next day. 13. I think I had the nicest room, #15, most of the time, for 700baht/night (high season). Cons: Just a couple little things. 1.They don't have jam (just marmalade) with the breakfast. 2.There's nothing on the menu that's American food. Place across the street serves burgers, though. 3. The bar next door is kind of annoying. Plays music way too loud. Once in my room, it wasn't bad though. Lots of good stuff, and just a couple small things that are acceptable. I will probably stay here again in the future. Rating 9/10 Steve

    Martinell Bar

I haven't seen much written up about Martinell Bar So I decided to start one. I was at the Chick-N-Coop last night having a few beers and and watching football. I look over at the next bar, and saw that no one was playing the Wii on the big screen, so I stopped by. Had a really good time playing with the girls. Very friendly, no pressure place. They have a pool table, darts and air hockey. By the way, it is same place where you can get the PA phone. Two great bars (Chick-N-Coop, Martinell Bar) right next door to each other.

I was welcomed into Teazers last night where I met up with Matt, who was kind enough to give me the rundown of the place and let me take some pictures so those of you who haven't yet been could get a look at the operation from the inside. Located on Walking Street, down on the right as you enter from Beach Road, Teazers has only been around for two years, but attracts some of the hottest dancers and occasionally some very attractive freelancers as well. It's open from 8 'til late with a happy hour from 8 to 10pm. With it's clean lines, neon lighting, attractive girls, and chill atmosphere, it's a great place to pop in for a drink or five. The coyote bar employes roughly 40 girls in all, sure to keep your eyes glued to them rather than the two LCD televisions showing the latest sports. Draft beer starts is 69 THB during happy hour, and then goes up to 89 THB after 10pm. Mixed drinks can be had at 115 THB, and if you're really thirsty, bottles start at 1800 THB. If it's one of the hotties you're buying a drink for, that will run you 120 THB. As for bar fines, they're 600 across the board for dancers, sign girls, and waitresses. Of course, as with most places frequented by us, there's no pay-in-advance policy in effect. Here's a few shots of one of the girls, and another two girls just to even things out. Teazers throws the occasional promotional party, and can do special parties if you're looking to celebrate your birthday or any other milestone. If you're on Facebook, be sure to add them! http://www.facebook.com/teazerspattaya Have you been to Teazers before? If so, post about your experience here to help keep your fellow mongers informed.
