Has anyone got a witty comeback for when a Thai calls you ขีเหนียว

I would like to think that ขีเหนียว was used in a positive light, ie. I am being careful with my money, rather than I'm a tight bastard.

But of course, being falang we are expected to flash the cash at every available opportunity.

Any feedback would be grateful.

Not anything that wouldn't get you beat up or killed, sorry. If you nod and agree maybe that takes the satisfaction out of it for them?

I just move on, i dont give cash to cheeky feckers.

Plenty of other bars that can treat you nicer ...............Up to me i think is the expression they use.

ขี้เหนียว - kee niao: a stingy bastard, nothing positive about it, although it's often used lightheartedly

ประหยัด - pra-yat: to be careful with your money.

So you can say: I'm not kee niao, I'm pra-yat.

Or in thai something like: mai dai kee niao, pen kon pra-yat

The answer may be: "I love my money as well as Thailand and Thai girls"! Worse is when you hear: No money do not go to Thailand "(but this is unlikely).

Funny, the literal translation of kee niao is "sticky shit" or "sticky poo."

Dunno if you want to play off of that somehow.

Yes - pom mai kee niao or teach some English make some fun about it. It's kind of an insult - so insult back in a fun way. I would teach words like - no way - or bull shit. Or now you buy the drinks .

kee niao - my ass. What would you like ? I can get it for you my dear . Can you speak better English so I know what you want (sweet lady ). You are really beautiful. are you hungry - do you want a drink ?

mai pang - mai kaw jai - WTF

Who knows - it is kind of an insult - so maybe just walk away or give them an appropriate look. I'd probably - lam bast - any Thai in a nice way. I couldn't let it pass

Baa - kon thai mee owe falang mai ? let them say it again. (kee niaow)

This is really quite an insult. I would not stop smiling and having fun - but ??????

Along these lines can use ฉลาด= clever/smart in response. (sorry for the link, can't type in Thai here so had to use a site)

not kee niao, I'm ch-laht - not tight, I'm smart

my response is kao niao mai dai ..... pom kun jon. (poor person in issan)

I'm quite sure that you puzzle a lot of people

"kao niao mai dai" - cannot sticky rice

"pom kun jon" - I mister John

Maybe "Mai kee niao rawk, bpen kon jon"

Chasing girls can be expensive

But it's more expensive if you catch one

"Mai kee niao rawk, bpen kon jon"

Just make sure you pronounce the "o" in "jon" reaally short, or else they might think you're a คนโจร, a thief or robber! Now that would take being stingy to a whole new level! :D

You usually only get called kee-niaw when someone's trying to rip you off anyway. Go with it

Chai, kee niaw maak maak. Mai mee samong Qai

Yes, i'm very tight. I don't have a buffalo brain (this is funny for the thai's)

I wouldn't even bother responding. Just smile and carry on as if nothing was said. The perpetrator has revealed their lack of class and there's no need to sink to their level.

The only time i've had it said to me was by one of those hawkers that relentlessly trawl around the Beer Bars after shakeing my head as a no (as you do)

I just smiled and calmly said 'Mai pen rai'. and kept smiling. He looked a bit dissapointed that he didn't get a rise out of me and moved on to pester someone else.

Should these crap sellers be banned from trawling the Beer Bars ?

Imo, Yes.

They are like Pussy's with Thrush (Irritating Cunts).
