Review: Grand Sukhumvit by Sofitel

MintyCock

Recommended Posts

I ended up staying at this hotel by accident as the Ever Rich was full and they suggested their partner hotel across the orad, Grand Sukhumvit by Sofitel. When they told me that it would cost about 5k baht a night, I said my budget was 2.5k. They said they could get me a room for 3k room only. I stuck to my guns and they let me have it for 2.5k (it was 6pm and room only).

I was impressed by the standard of the rooms and hotel facilities. If you work for a fairly large company then it might be worth asking if they have company discounts as I found that they did for my company.

+ives

Nice big room

Super King size bed (enough space for 5)

Deep bath with 3 separate showers (inc separate shower area)

Robes & slippers

Room controls everywhere (bathroom, bedside, near tv, wall)

Nice location near Nana

Fully packed gym (weights and cardio)

Nice outdoor pool

Attentive staff

-ives

Fairly expensive

Tried to get me to pay a joiner (perhaps due to only paying 2.5k) - don't think it is their normal policy though

Mixed use (families, business people, mongerers)

Here are some pictures:

I stayed there last year for 3 nights after booking a normal room through Agoda. When i checked in they did not have any normal rooms left and bumped me to a junior suite. Very nice! Seperate living room and kitchen besides what you got. The only negative I had is that the other guests (families, business travellers, and loads of Japanese) and most of the staff were continually giving my Thai GF the stink eye, and she didnt feel comfortable walking through the lobby.

I stayed here for the first time last week. Like Minty, they gave me a room upgrade without additional cost.

Quite comfortable, but internet access was 500 baht extra per 24 hours, and was slow. Going back next

weekend, will leave my computer at home. Here's a shot of the bedroom, and a view from the 30th floor.

The GS is cheap right now. Some websites have it for $60/nite all in. I'll have to give it a try in June. The new Park Plaza too. wj

If your budget is on the money, you can't go wrong in this place. No joiner for as long as there is only 2 people (including you) in the room.

I took advantage of the 1330 baht per night deal and on arrival, was given an upgrade to their Gold rooms (I think they have 4 grades of room).

Great staff and a 7/11 next door to get you fridge full of the beer and thai whisky :ShitHappens1:

Ok ok, in one of the pics, the additional guest did not come in the 1330 baht deal :Dunno:

It is one in the same Grand Sukhumvit (formerly Sofitel), Suk Road, Soi 6.

There are two buildings for this hotel, - The Silver and Gold rooms on one side and the Platinum and some other metal ( ? :Clap8: ) room on the other building. So I was on the cheap side, but the better of the two rooms.

Its part of the Accor Group. One of the BMs saw a 3 day sale being advertised for all their rooms throughout the world.

Yes, 1330 baht was an outstanding deal. Goes to show if you keep an eye on things, there will be pearls to be found everywhere. With tourism in LOS not showing any signs of recovery, it would be worth getting on Accor's mailing list in case deals come up again.

I live in Thailand and often bus into Bangers for weekend mongering, so I took advantage of that sale and reserved several

weekends at that reduced rate. In fact, I'll be spending the next 2 weekends there. Was very glad to find the hotel guest friendly.

LYLT & PC: It's gotta be the best deal in town and nice pull on the BGs as well brothers. Did you need an Accor Advantage card for that price ? Mike: Thanks for the review. I think you can get the PP for around 2K if you sniff around a bit though. Thanks again gentlemen; wj

WJ,

this is the Grand Sukhumvit Soi 6, Suk Road, Bangkok we were talking about / leaving pics of.....

http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-6171-g...tel/index.shtml

what I would do is email them and ask to be put on their promotional mailing list.

To answer your question, you didn't need to be part of their membership/advantage/corporate schemes at all. You just need to be quick. That last offer was that you had to book within 3 days of the offer being made available and that the rooms throughout the world would be 1330 baht between April, May (and possibly June (I cant remember)).

Cheers
